Consultations

Your commercial space is unique. Sound Proof Atlanta offers full, end-to-end room soundproofing from consultation to installation. When you optimize noise control, you restore your room to what it was meant to be.

SITE VISIT

An acoustical site visit from Sound Proof Atlanta is an on-site evaluation of the acoustical conditions in a building or outdoor environment. The purpose of an acoustical site visit is to gather information about the sound levels and acoustic characteristics of the space, and to identify potential sources of noise and vibration.

A typical acoustical site visit typically entails the following steps:

  • Survey of the space: We will conduct a visual inspection of the space, including the layout and dimensions of the room, the type of flooring, walls, and ceiling, and any potential sources of noise and vibration.

  • Measurement of sound levels: We will measure the sound levels in the space using specialized equipment, to determine the background sound levels and to identify any areas of high noise.

  • Analysis of sound transmission: If appropriate, our team will evaluate the sound transmission between different spaces, such as adjacent rooms or floors, by generating measuring sound levels on one side of a wall and comparing them to sound levels on the other side.

  • Identification of noise sources: We will identify potential sources of noise, such as HVAC systems, elevators, or outside traffic, and evaluate their impact on the sound levels in the space.

  • Discussion of findings and recommendations: Sound Proof Atlanta will discuss the findings of the site visit with the client and provide recommendations for improving the acoustical conditions in the space, such as adding soundproofing materials, modifying the layout of the space, or adjusting the HVAC system.

ACOUSTICAL ASSESSMENT

An acoustical assessment from Sound Proof Atlanta involves evaluating and measuring the sound environment in your specific space or location. The purpose of the assessment is to identify any issues related to sound quality and to recommend ways to improve it. Here are some of the things that an acoustical assessment may involve:

  • Sound level measurement: This involves using specialized equipment to measure the decibel (dB) levels of sound in the environment. The measurements help determine the level of background noise and the effectiveness of soundproofing materials.

  • Reverberation time: This measures the time it takes for sound to decay to an inaudible level in a space. Long reverberation times can make speech difficult to understand and may affect the overall sound quality of a space.

  • Frequency analysis: This involves measuring the spectral content of sound in a space, including the levels of different frequencies. This information is used to determine the balance and clarity of sound in a space and to identify any specific frequency ranges that need to be addressed.

  • Room mode analysis: This involves evaluating the standing waves and resonances in a room, which can affect the overall sound quality and clarity of a space.

  • Sound transmission analysis: This involves evaluating the effectiveness of building assemblies, such as walls, floors, and ceilings, in preventing sound from passing through them. The purpose of a sound transmission analysis is to identify areas where sound is leaking from one space to another and to make recommendations for reducing the transmission of sound.

  • Evaluation of existing soundproofing materials: An acoustical assessment may evaluate the effectiveness of existing soundproofing materials and recommend additional measures if necessary.

  • Recommendations: Based on the findings of the acoustical assessment, Sound Proof Atlanta will provide recommendations for improving the sound environment, which may include adding acoustical materials, changing room dimensions, or adjusting the placement of sound sources.

Equipment Used

Sound Proof Atlanta uses the highest standard of acoustical instrumentation when conducting testing in order to ensure accuracy and provide your space with the precise amount of acoustical treatment needed to remediate the issue. Our acoustical instruments include:

NTi XL3 Sound Level Meter

Newly released for 2023, the NTI XL3 is a professional-grade sound level meter that is used for measuring and analyzing sound levels in various environments. The XL3 is a Class 1 sound level meter, which is the highest level of accuracy specified by international standards organizations. This makes it suitable for a wide range of applications, including environmental noise assessments, industrial noise control, and acoustical testing.

Larson Davis Impulsive Sound Source

The Larson Davis BAS006 is an impulsive sound source that is used for acoustical testing as well as calibrating sound level meters and other acoustic equipment. The impulsive sound source provides a short, precisely controlled burst of sound that can be used to assess the reverberation time (echo) within a space. The BAS006 provides highly accurate and consistent sound bursts, with a tolerance of +/- 1 dB, making it ideal for testing and comparing the reverberation time of various types of spaces.

Bose S1 Pro Portable Loudspeaker

Despite its small size, our portable loudspeaker packs a punch. Convenient for use in almost any space in order to assess the sound insulation of walls, flooring, and ceilings, or to evaluate the sound absorption properties of existing acoustical materials. The S1 Pro is used to generate a steady and continuous sound that can be used to test the response of acoustic equipment and to evaluate the sound insulation of walls and partitions. This steady sound is known as “pink noise”. Similar to white noise, pink noise is preferred in acoustical testing because it provides a more representative sample of the energy distribution of typical sounds in the environment.
